Winter weddings get a bad rap. Sure, it's cold outside. But give me a beautiful indoor venue, good lighting, candlelight, and a room full of people who are there to celebrate, and I'm sold. Gus and Megan's wedding was exactly that. Their day began with a traditional Catholic ceremony at Saint Kilian Church in Cranberry Township, followed by a winter reception at the Pittsburgh Marriott North. The whole day had a classic, elegant feel without being overly fussy, with soft neutral details, candlelight, and plenty of moments that were much more interesting than anything we could have planned.
A Winter Wedding at St. Kilian Church
Gus and Megan began their wedding day at Saint Kilian Church, where they exchanged vows surrounded by their family and friends. There's something I really like about a traditional church wedding. There's history to it. There's a sense of occasion that doesn't need much embellishment. Once the ceremony was over, everyone headed to the Pittsburgh Marriott North for the reception. And that's when the day shifted from ceremony mode into celebration mode.

Your guests aren't being sent back outside into Pennsylvania winter every twenty minutes, and there's plenty of space for the parts of the day that actually matter: eating, talking, dancing, and celebrating. For a wedding photographer, that also means we can make the most of the indoor spaces without fighting the weather. Which, in December in Western Pennsylvania, is always a win.

Winter weddings have their own kind of atmosphere. The reception details were classic and understated, with soft neutrals, candlelight, and elegant floral touches throughout the space. And yes, I photographed all of it. I'm a wedding photographer. I'm legally obligated to photograph the centerpieces. 😂 But the details aren't the reason I want you to remember your wedding. They're part of the story. The invitations, flowers, rings, dress, reception room, and all the little decisions you made help you remember what your wedding actually looked like. Then there are the photographs that remind you what it felt like.

The look someone gives the couple when they're not paying attention. The moments happening between the scheduled moments. Those are often the photographs that become people's favorites.
A Reception Full of Family
One of the things that stood out about Gus and Megan's reception was how much of the celebration centered around their families. There were emotional moments, plenty of laughter, and eventually the grandparents made their way onto the dance floor. And honestly? Grandparents dancing is always going in the gallery. Those are the photographs that become family history. Years from now, nobody is going to care whether the dance floor looked perfectly styled. They're going to care that Grandma was out there dancing. That's why I photograph weddings the way I do. I want the gallery to show you the whole day—not just the parts that looked good on a Pinterest board.
