Seraphina and Sonny's 2024 wedding at The Grand Estates at Hidden Acres in Freeport, Pennsylvania was a beautiful summer celebration with an outdoor ceremony, handwritten vows, dinner outside, and a dance floor that definitely did its job. They were such a sweet couple, and their whole day had an easy, relaxed feeling to it. Nothing felt overly complicated or like everyone was spending the day worrying about getting the perfect photograph.
Which, frankly, is exactly how I like weddings.

One of the best things about Grand Estates at Hidden Acres is how much of the wedding day can happen outside.
For couples who want an outdoor wedding in Western Pennsylvania, the property gives you plenty of room to actually enjoy the day rather than spending the entire thing moving from one indoor space to another. Seraphina and Sonny took advantage of that. Their ceremony was held outdoors, surrounded by the natural beauty of the property, and they exchanged handwritten vows that made the ceremony feel personal and intentional. There's something about handwritten vows that I will always love. You can tell when someone has actually sat down and thought about what they want to say to the person they're marrying. It doesn't need to be perfect. In fact, I think the imperfect ones are usually better.

We can make beautiful portraits without making photography feel like another event you have to participate in. Give me a little time, give me some direction, and then go back to your people. The best photographs usually happen when you're actually enjoying yourselves anyway.
Dinner Outside
One of my favorite parts of Seraphina and Sonny's wedding was how much of the celebration happened outdoors. Cocktail hour and dinner gave everyone a chance to relax, talk, eat, and actually spend time together before the reception really got going. And that's something I think gets overlooked when people plan weddings. Your guests didn't come just to watch you get married. They came to be with you. They came to catch up with family, drink something, eat good food, tell stories, and celebrate the fact that two people they love just got married. I want photographs of that, too. Not just the big moments. The little ones happening around them.

Eventually, dinner gave way to dancing. And once people hit the dance floor, my job gets pretty easy. I don't need to manufacture much when everyone is already having a good time. Friends dancing together. Family members letting loose. People laughing at things that probably weren't nearly as funny the next morning. That's the stuff I want in a wedding gallery. Because when you look back at your wedding photographs years from now, I don't want you to see a collection of perfect poses. I want you to remember what it actually felt like to be there.
