Their wedding at the Steamfitters Event Center in Harmony, Pennsylvania was one of those days that had a little bit of everything I love about wedding photography: a couple who were completely comfortable together, a beautiful space, thoughtful details, a packed dance floor, and a whole lot of people who clearly came ready to celebrate. As a Pittsburgh wedding photographer, I photograph weddings all over the Pittsburgh area and Western Pennsylvania, and Steamfitters is one of those venues that gives you plenty to work with. Brandon and Kenzie took full advantage of it.

A Classic Steamfitters Event Center Wedding

Brandon and Kenzie met in school, and their relationship grew from there. So by the time their wedding day arrived, this wasn't just a couple celebrating a new chapter. They had years of history behind them. And you could feel it. There was a familiarity between them that made photographing the two of them ridiculously easy. No forcing moments. No trying to manufacture emotion for the camera. They were already completely themselves together, which is exactly what I want when I'm photographing a wedding. That's the good stuff. Their wedding style also struck a really nice balance between classic and modern. They incorporated black accents throughout the reception space, from the chairs and linens to the floral design. The darker details gave the room a little edge without making the overall look feel heavy. Basically: classic wedding, but with some personality. I'm into it.

Wedding Photography at Steamfitters Event Center

One of my favorite things about photographing a wedding at Steamfitters Event Center is being able to move between all of the different parts of the day without everything feeling like one giant staged production. There are the obvious moments—the ceremony, portraits, family photos, first dances—but then there are all the little things happening around them. A parent watching from the side. A quick laugh between friends. The ridiculous dance moves that absolutely did not make it onto the official timeline. The hug that lasts a little longer than expected. Those are the photographs I want to make.As a documentary-inspired Pittsburgh wedding photographer, my approach is pretty simple: I'll give you direction when you need it, especially during portraits and the parts of the day where a little guidance helps, but I'm not interested in directing every second of your wedding. You have enough people telling you where to be. I'm there to photograph what actually happens.

Black Wedding Details & Classic Romance

Brandon and Kenzie's reception details were a perfect example of why I love weddings that don't feel like they came straight out of a template. The black accents created contrast throughout the room while still keeping the overall look timeless. Their florals, tables, chairs, and linens all worked together without feeling overly coordinated. And because the details weren't the only thing happening, we were able to photograph them as part of the larger story of the day rather than treating the wedding like a collection of centerpieces. That's always my goal. The pretty stuff matters. Obviously. I'm a photographer. But the people matter more.

A Dance Floor Full of People Who Came to Party

And then there was the reception. Brandon and Kenzie's friends and family showed up ready to celebrate them, and it showed. There were speeches, plenty of dancing, hugs, laughter, and the kind of reception energy that makes it very easy to forget you're supposed to be standing somewhere taking “professional photographs.” Those are my favorite receptions. The ones where people stop worrying about looking perfect and actually have a good time. Because that's when the photographs start getting interesting.
