There are some Pittsburgh wedding venues that are beautiful because they're grand, and then there are venues that are beautiful because they feel unmistakably Pittsburgh. LeMont is definitely the second. Perched above Mount Washington with those ridiculous views of the Pittsburgh skyline, LeMont Restaurant is one of those wedding venues that gives you a little bit of everything—classic ballroom elegance, a killer city backdrop, and plenty of opportunities for photographs that actually feel like Pittsburgh. And then there are weddings where the venue is beautiful, but it's the people who make the entire day unforgettable. Meg and Jerome's wedding was one of those.

Meg and Jerome met in medical school, went through residency together, and have been building their life together for years. So when their wedding day finally arrived, there was a lot more behind it than just two people getting married. These two are wildly intelligent, incredibly kind, and so genuinely in love with each other that photographing them was ridiculously easy. There was no need to manufacture emotion or force anything for the camera. They were completely comfortable together, and it showed. And their families? Some of the sweetest people you will ever meet. There was not a dry eye in the room during the speeches. Not even close. It was one of those weddings where you could look around and tell that these two weren't just loved by each other—they were surrounded by people who were genuinely thrilled to be there celebrating them. Honestly, this was one of the best weddings I've photographed.

A Classic Pittsburgh Wedding at LeMont

One of the things I love about photographing weddings at LeMont is that you don't have to work very hard to make the setting look good. The ballroom already has that classic, elegant feel, while the views outside give you something completely different. You can go from timeless indoor portraits to photographs overlooking downtown Pittsburgh without having to turn the wedding day into a road trip. And let's be honest: Pittsburgh looks pretty damn good from Mount Washington. For couples who want a traditional wedding with a little bit of Pittsburgh personality, LeMont is a pretty hard venue to beat.

My approach to wedding photography is pretty simple. I'll tell you where to stand when you actually need direction. I'll help organize the family photos. I'll make sure we get the important portraits and all the little details you spent months planning. But I'm not going to spend your entire wedding day manufacturing moments. Once the formal stuff is done, I want you back with your people. That's when I get to do what I actually love: watching what happens and photographing it. The quick reactions during the ceremony. Your friends losing their minds on the dance floor. Your mom trying not to cry. The ridiculous stuff that happens when everyone has had a few hours to relax and celebrate. Those photographs tend to mean a hell of a lot more than a perfectly posed picture where everyone is staring at the camera.

LeMont Wedding Portraits With a Pittsburgh View

Obviously, we had to take advantage of the view. LeMont's location on Mount Washington gives couples one of the best built-in backdrops in the city. You get the Pittsburgh skyline, the rivers, the bridges, and all the architecture that makes the city instantly recognizable. And because the view is doing approximately 90% of the work, we can keep portraits simple. You don't need some elaborate Pinterest pose. You need to be with the person you just married, have a little direction when you need it, and let me photograph the two of you being yourselves. That's where the good stuff happens.

The Little Details Matter, Too

I always photograph the details.

The invitations, flowers, rings, dress, reception setup, and all the little decisions that took months to make aren't just filler photographs. They're part of the story of the wedding.

But I also don't believe your wedding gallery should feel like an architectural photography portfolio.

That's the balance I'm looking for throughout an entire wedding day.

A St. Mary on the Mount Ceremony

Meg and Jerome began their wedding day at St. Mary of the Mount on Mount Washington, one of Pittsburgh's most beautiful historic churches.

The setting couldn't have been more fitting. Sitting high above the city, the church has that classic Pittsburgh character that makes the entire day feel connected to the city rather than just taking place somewhere in it After the ceremony, we headed to LeMont Restaurant for the reception. And this is where the day really started to feel like a party

And then, naturally, things loosened up. Once dinner was over and the reception was underway, the focus shifted from making everything look perfect to actually celebrating. This is usually my favorite part of the day. People stop worrying about their hair. Someone inevitably starts dancing like they're auditioning for something. Grandparents get on the dance floor. Your friends become significantly less concerned about whether they're being photographed. Because years from now, you're probably not going to remember exactly what the centerpiece looked like. You're going to remember who was there. You're going to remember your dad's face during the speeches. You're going to remember your friends packed onto the dance floor. You're going to remember how it felt to look around the room and realize that all of your favorite people were there because of you.

That's what I'm trying to give you.
